My friend sent me a link to a YouTube video the other day that made me pretty sick.
It was an animation of an angel who was watching a mugging at gun point. He floated up to heaven asked God "why don't you stop it"?
He replied "I have given them free will"..."so, you care more about the free will of the mugger than the lady or her son watching?"....
"well, um, ah, ummmmm"
God gave the pat answer most Christians give about his way being higher, ultimate healing and so forth.
But we ponder this don't we?
He tells us that to live we must die, to gain we must loose, to lead we must be a slave and the rich are doomed. (Mark 10:17-31) How is this supposed to be good news?
No wonder folks who aren't Christians think we're nuts.
The readings this past week keep asking us to appeal to our senses; what to you smell? Life or death? The old song "What's that smell" comes to mind....what's that smell that's around you?
The smell of Christ to me wast the stench of death, but now, by his grace and mercy, it is the smell of life.
It's hard to catch a whiff of God these days unless you make an intentional effort to open the window and let the fresh air in. Ask God to smash the glass house you are stuck in if you need to.
The smog is choking us all. Open the window and breath deeply the Spirit of God.
