1) It must be sustainable.
2) It must use indigenous materials
3) It should be what is needed
So Weight Watchers Online fit the bill for me.
I can eat more than meat, fat and lard.
I don't have to buy a million prepared meals or exercise equipment
I need to loose weight.
It's been a life-style change for me. I carefully look at what I am putting into my mouth. I think about what it is made of, what it will do for me and if I really need it.
I am not alone;
Dieting is a national pastime. While the number of Americans who diet varies, depending on the source, the Boston Medical Center indicates that approximately 45 million Americans diet each year and spend $33 billion on weight-loss products in their pursuit of a trimmer, fitter body.
It is easy to see the effects of eating poorly have on our body. It's not so easy to see what effect eating poorly has on the soul.
Paul warned the church in Corinth that they weren't eating well (see 1 Corinthians 11:17-34). They had turned what was supposed to be a time of remembrance of grace into an actual orgy.
They weren't looking at what they were eating and the result was very, very bad.
For when the time comes to eat, each of you goes ahead with his
own supper, and one goes hungry while another becomes drunk!
1 Cor. 11:21
Taking grace for granted makes your heart fat.
Their hearts are fat like grease (Ps 199:70 KJV)
...their hearts are like curdled milk (Aramaic Translation)
Welcome the blessing of Lent, a time when we are called to pause and look deeply at what we are eating and why.
Grace, and the understanding of it are the only things that can cut through the grease and make our hearts healthy again. Join me on my spiritual weight watchers. Can you imagine what would happen if 45 million of us spent 33 billion dollars in an attempt to life out Christ's love for ourselves and the nation?
