My daughter Olivia encountered a classmate last week who preached the same message. He was not a priest, did not have a blog and was only five years old but his message to my daughter was the same as this man's Easter Vigil Sermon to his church;
"God is stupid"
Olivia told me this story as we walked up from preschool.
"what did you tell him honey?'
"Oh, I said no he's not, he's good dad. He just doesn't know God"
Today as she left for school she looked into her backpack.
"Hey mom, where is the book I asked dad to put in my bag the other day?"
"Oh, sorry honey, I put it away"
"But mom, I need to bring that book to school to tell my friend about Jesus."
So my daughter out of love for God and others will be sharing via a Golden Book what Paul shared via the first letter to the church in Corinth;
"If Christ has not been raised , your faith is futile and you are still in your sins
...but in fact Christ has been raised from the dead,
the first fruits of those who have died
...if for this life only we have hoped in Christ,
we of all people are most to be pitied."
(1 Corinthians 15:12ff)
Easter has not ended. Jesus did not return to the tomb. Do not live your life like he did.
For the love of God, tell people of the love of God. Tell them that while we were all destined for destruction God opened the way back to him.
No young man, no Mr. Priest, God is not stupid. It is simply that his mercy and love are unfathomable. I am so sorry you were told some bad information.
Please seek out a clue; don't tell my kids their God is stupid. They know better.
Why not ask them why they live such purposeful, fulfilled lives. Why not ask them why they give away their toys, share their birthday money, befriend the kids being picked on, kiss daddy goodnight so often as the goes to help folks. Ask them why they sings songs about God's love for the broken, the marginalized and the hurting with smiles and joy. Ask them why they pray for friends and neighbors regardless of their beliefs. Ask them my they run with joy on Sundays to the table up front to partake of the Feast of Christ!
They'll clue you in, trust me.
You have some amazing girls there, all three of them. You're not so bad yourself. :-)
